What's Wrong With My Uterus?

Let's explore the many problems of the uterus! The uterus, essential for childbirth and menstrual regulation, can also pose challenges like fibroids, prolapse, adenomyosis, pelvic pain, PCOS, endometriosis, and sometimes requires surgery like hysterectomy.

First up, we have uterine fibroids. These are noncancerous growths in the uterus that usually develop during reproductive years. Imagine tiny gremlins throwing a rave inside you that can cause heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, and fertility issues.

Have you heard of a prolapsed uterus? It's the uterus's attempt at an escape act. Weakened pelvic muscles and ligaments cause the uterus to descend into the vaginal canal.

Some women experience unusually heavy periods and pelvic pain. It could be adenomyosis, when the inner lining of the uterus decides to go on an adventure into the muscle wall. The tissue that should line the inside of the uterus starts growing where it shouldn't.

Shoutout to our PCOS cyst-ers! Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is a hormonal disorder causing enlarged ovaries with small cysts on the outer edges.

Endometriosis is when uterus-like cells grow outside it, usually in the pelvis, causing scar tissue and adhesions.

PCOS and endometriosis are super common. Endo affects about one in nine women and PCOS affects about one in 10.

In rare instances, people like our BFF and biggest plushie uterus fan Elizabeth Goldman, are born without a uterus! It's a condition called Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome.

While having a uterus can lead to health issues like fibroids, endometriosis, and menstrual pain, being born without one also brings its own challenges like the inability to conceive naturally and potential issues with sexual development and function.

Totally fed up with your uterus? Some people chose to lose it with a partial or total hysterectomy.

Total hysterectomy removes the entire uterus and the cervix. Partial hysterectomy removes only the uterus, leaving behind the cervix. Whether it's a total send-off or just trimming the guest list, it's all about making your pelvic party pad more comfy. We heart our hyster sisters!
