Want to know what organ sold best at at the 2011
American Public Health Association Conference? We brought a lot of hearts and uteri, but the testicle really blew them all away, he was definitely the most popular plush at the show -- some folks even purchased him in pairs! Each gut enjoyed stopping by different booths, especially the organ-themed ones (they are so self-referential). Our heart enjoyed chatting with folks at the
American Heart Association as well as the
Heart Lung and Blood Institute. Prostate was proud to be right across the aisle from
Women Against Prostate Cancer, Uterus needed to pose in front of the
Midwives Model of Care booth and of course Kidney couldn't resist a trip to the
National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (Pancreas and Intestine were disappointed they weren't invited into the photo). National Public Radio featured the guts on their website in a story about
offbeat wares at the APHA convention, we had a great time chatting with Julie Rovner and the nice people at
Infectious Awareables, makers of subtle e.coli neckties, estrogen scarves and other great stuff. Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth, we had a great time learning about all the varied and interesting work that goes into public health!
