We are pleased to announce we'll have a few items in this weekend's show Freezer Isle, a plush art showcase of icy goodies and more put on by Phantom Galleries (they show in empty storefronts, mowing around for each show) and Evil Ice Cream. Also on hand, artsy stuff from plush-world luminaries UglyDolls, Dan Goodsell, Shawnimals, Anna Chambers, and more! At first I figured it was wrong to include guts in a show about edibles, but Evil Ice Cream's Kerry helped broaden my horizons. "Don't they keep kidneys on ice sometimes?" So I made a special icy heart, entitled "Cold Hearted", plus Frankensteak will make an appearance along with the totally iced out crew from Carat Club. If you're down in the OC this weekend, please check it out at 2736 E Chapman Ave, Orange, CA 92869. The opening is Saturday, March 14, 7 pm-12 am.
The gungan everyone loves to hate -- Jar Jar Binks -- will meet his maker in horrible ways at the hands of 99 artists in "99 Deaths of Jar Jar," an art show organized by DKE Toys. Each drawing will be for sale at the DKE booth at Designer Con in PasadenaNov 9&10, plus a mimemographed zine of all the Jar Jar offings will also be available. Take a peek at our drawing, below left, and check out the many ways other artists have envisioned his demise at Designer Con!
If you like characters, comics, weirdos or dressing up, then you'll love WonderCon, slated to invade San Francisco's Moscone Center April 2-4. Come and see some of our fave indie designers, publishers and brands such as Gama-Go, Suicide Girls, Conduct Happiness, Baby Tattoo Books, Sweet Meats' Lauren Venell, Mr. Toast, Spicy Brown and Giant Microbes! Marvel at grown men dressed like Pokemon and tiny kids dressed like wizened Obi Wans. We will be there next week at booth #1242 with all our gutsy wares available for gawking and fondling. We'd love to see a friendly face or two, so please drop by or tell a friend! Details on exhibitors and entry fees at the ComicCon website.
