about i heart guts
I Heart Guts is the brainchild of an anatomically obsessed illustrator who loves internal organs and all they do. Founded in 2005, our little family operation (heh heh..ugh) strives to offer the best in stoopid slogans paired with happy gloppy guts.
The guts grew from a single drawing of a broken heart, after a string of bad hookups, dead-end relationships and bad boyfriends. At the time, I was also doing a lot of drinking, so a sad liver and lung followed. Years later, my wonderful husband wondered, "Why don't you do something with those darned guts?"
I started out with one T-shirt and now our apartment is filled with tote bag guts, button guts, sticker guts, tons of tees, and now plush toy organs. Oy vey. If ever you need a gut, come on over and we'll bust you one. I do all the drawing, designing, dorking, shipping, emailing and wholesaling, while my man deals with the thrills of acounting. Our one-year-old is in charge of throwing stuff around the room and mess-making.
Time Out New York said of the guts, "The deliriously happy bunch is sure to put any get-well card to shame," while Entertainment Weekly ventured: “Who hasn’t dreamed of owning a shirt with a bright, animated uterus on the front?" Black Book magazine says, "These furry toys can transplant love back into any tired relationship" and arbiter of hip Cool Hunting enjoys the “bizarre, giggle-inducing designs." Wired blog's Geek Dad notes, "Imagine the fun of saying "'Go upstairs to bed, sweetie, and don't forget your pancreas!'"
