"When preschool teacher Beth Battista learned that Lyla Carreyn, a 5-year-old student at the same school, needed a kidney transplant, she said "I just knew I had to get tested," says the University of Wisconsin Health website where the kidney transplant surgery took place in 2017. Lyla and Beth recovered from surgery with matching kidney plush pillows! Kidney twinsies forever! We just love heart-warming stories like this.

Most folks are born with two kidneys, but did you know some people have three 💜 💜 💜 ? When you’re born with more than two, those extras are called supernumerary kidneys and it’s extremely rare, with fewer than 100 known cases. Having three kidneys is more common following a transplant — they hook up the new one and leave the old one in!
