Leave it it the uterus to make a big splash on the floor of the House of Representatives. Republican house leaders reprimanded Florida state representative Scott Randolph, after he suggested his wife “incorporate her uterus” and also asked them to “look into your heart” in order to get business-friendly Republicans to leave women’s lady parts alone. ”Republicans, after all, wouldn’t want to further regulate a Florida business,” reported the St. Petersberg Times on the incident, which occurred in late March. The GOP defended itself, telling him not to discuss “body parts” on the house floor without first letting kids leave (let’s not forget everyone in the chamber had, early on, spent time inside a uterus). Obviously, no one’s gonna make a U-turn on how they feel about the “U-word.” The comment has since inspired songs, a Uterati Facebook page, led the ACLU to create the website incorporatemyuterus.com and Andrew Leonard at Salon.com wants to get a t-shirt made: “Get the government out of my uterus, and into Goldman Sachs.”

Many of you have written in to suggest making some sort of graphic showing where all the guts and glands live in the body, and I’ve finally gotten around to creating one. It’s even got rollovers so you can learn more about, say, your pineal gland, should you have time to squander. For the purposes of simplicity, we’ve made the body a hermaphrodite — she’s got a uterus to go with her prostate and testes! We’ll call her/him Hermie.

Test For Humans

Considering the fact that I look at internal organs all day long for a living, my score on the name all the internal organs in four minutes quiz is shamefully bad. I only got 15 out of 24 total organs, isn’t that pathetic? Granted, it was mainly because I didn’t really read the directions and forgot to pluralize things like parathyroids and ovaries (and jeez, who knew the esophagus would be included, but skin wouldn’t? And they rejected spelling gallbladder as one word. I say, look it up in the dictionary, bitches). Anyway, learn from my mistakes, pluralize, and take the quiz. The clock does start ticking right away, so be ready to go when you click on the link and don’t dawdle like I did.

Pac Man Fever

This fun little video game really puts the Ms. in Ms. Pac Man, where Pac-man is actually an ovum that gobbles down sperm for strength. It’s an “educational game” on Fertility Friend’s website, but really the only education comes at the end, when you get different conception tips. Anybody know what the crossed out “AF” means? And what are the flaming monsters Ms. Pac-Man must avoid? The only thing missing is the “wakka wakka wakka” sound…

Pancreas Gets A Podcast

If you’re interested in hearing me yap on and on about guts, this podcast called Serving Donuts did a little interview with me about I Heart Guts, the sad story of the uterus recall, liver ‘n onions, and the least popular organ. I have a cold, so I sound all stuffy, but if you have time to squander, by all means listen away. These guys have really professional-sounding radio voices, so it was kind of bizarre to talk to them — it felt like talking back to A.M. radio, which I do a lot, incidentally.

Shiny Sparkly Guts!

We’ve got a couple of sparkly new tees coming in today, both with fabulous metallic inks, we hope you’ll like ‘em.
