This might be the last time you see a testicle and ovary on the cover of Washington Post’s local business magazine, Capital Business. Read a fun profile of the inner workings of I Heart Guts by reporter Steven Overly, who, as it so happens, is not only talented but a really nice guy to boot!

Gutsy handmades will be at a coast near you very soon. This weekend, visit our custom yoka at the adfunture/DKE Toys art show at DesignerCon in Pasadena tomorrow, Nov. 21. The other yokas are about a million times cooler than the one I made, so you won’t be disappointed. Take a look at the amazing creations that will be on display at DesignerCon. I Heart Guts will also have three felt brooches at the Luv-able Hug-able show at Gallery Hanahou in New York, so check ‘em out! The theme this year is “Medium and Mini” — aka small, affordable and recession-friendly. The gallery also has a ton of our regular guts for sale on consignment, so if you’re in New York and need guts, this is the place to go. The show opens Dec. 3rd and runs through January 9th.
Cute + Gross Guts
Posted: Wednesday, September 30th, 2009
Thank goodness we’re not the only ones obsessed with making plush guts. Meet Gnagno, whose guts are easily accessible via several zippered openings (notice the brain peeking out from Gnagno’s zippered mouth — gross!). Gnagno and The Organs plush toy hails from Italy and it pretty darned cute. Also gut-obsessed are our friends Spooky Daddy, a rare breed of male handmade plush-maker who makes gorgeous eyeballs and also crafted this incredible gut-filled monkey, part of his Medical Experiments in Plush series. We are particularly impressed with the intestine, which has a texture that looks a lot like the real thing. The baking tray filled with guts is a particularly macabre touch. The monkey also looks pretty positive about his eviscerated fate. Good thing to be so optimistic in troubled times. {via DaddyTypes}
Full of Guts

Among the many good things at Wondercon 2009 in San Francisco last weekend was a seeing Guts, a large, glossy book of icky photos from the Tim Palen pop-horror genre (the Saw series, etc.) published by Baby Tattoo Books. Obviously, this one ain’t for kiddies, filled as it is with slasher-horror gut-spilling gore. Props to the packaging designer, who packed it up in a foam meat tray. We had a great time at the I Heart Guts booth, meeting nice people and sending some of them away with guts. Someone told me Carrie Fisher took a peek at our booth, but sadly I was helping another customer so I missed her. Oh well. Toycyte did a nice write-up on the guts, so thanks, Jeremy, it was nice to meet you!

Things were so fun around the show, I forgot to tell you about the fun we had in our booth! One woman, an M.D., was checking out the glands and remarked of the testicle, “He looks like he has kind of an epidydimis combover.” Hilarious. A midwife-in-training popped by our booth to get some Womb Service tees, and her friend said, all of a sudden, “I have two uteruses. And two cervixes!” So we spent the next five minutes wondering if she could have two pregnancies and two different times, what about two periods? Fascinating. Can you imagine? It turns out that , yes you can have two separate pregnancies in two uteruses. I also got a chance to meet Katrina, who blogs about tees on T-shirts Around the Internet, she was super nice, and it was great to meet her in person!
Unhealthily Obsessed

The guts are always happy to be the object of someone’s obsession, especially people we are obsessed with right back. So we’re especially honored to have been featured in Time Out New York‘s shopping section. One of my fave old ways to unwind after a long day’s work (and even longer subway ride home) was to read a fresh issue of Time Out while soaking in the bathtub and drinking a beer. Anyway, some of the nice things they said: “The deliriously happy bunch is sure to put any get-well card to shame. And having a plush version of whatever’s ailing is like reverse voodoo—somehow, punching a stuffed uterus during a bad period makes it all feel better.”
New deals and Gutsy coupon!
Posted: Sunday, August 17th, 2008
Just loaded up a bunch of new slightly damaged gutsy goods to the Steals + Deals section of our site, including a $9 plush heart that has a sort of blemish to his face. But he’s still gutsy. And lovable. He won’t last long around here at that price, so won’t you take him home? Gone! I’d also like to extend a special coupon to anyone insane enough to read this blog: plug in GUTS2008 at checkout and get 10% off your order. Good through the end of September.
