Big Things Ahead

Posted: Tuesday, July 12th, 2011

Maybe your brain wasn’t burning with the question, “What’s new with guts at Comic Con this year?” but we’re gonna share anyway. Some more BIG GUTS will debut at Comic Con, specifically the new Colossal Kidney, Big Brain, Immense Intestine and Prodigious Pancreas, all pictured here. These are so fun and fluffy and fabulous, we cannot wait to share them with our favorite folks at the world’s largest geek convention (being geeks ourselves, we’re allowed to say that). If that’s not enough, we’ll also have our brand new plush appendix and plush thyroid, seen below, so please stop by our booth, #932! We’ll also have our usual array of tees, pins, posters and other fun stuff. And for those of you who can’t make it, don’t worry, these guys are on now for sale on our website! And there’s still a handful of the lifesize kidneys, pancreases and intestines left if you want ‘em.

Insane For Brains

Posted: Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

Meet our new brain, bigger and — dare we say it? — better than our original lifesize brain! This new Big Brain has a fun new book-like hangtag with more fun art, silliness and tidbits (example: brain loves puzzles, but hates forgetting things) about everyone’s favorite organ, plus fabulous improved brain folds (gyri and sulci for you technical folks). We have only five of our original brains left, so we may have a temporary brain shortage around here while our new brains travel, quite literally, on a slow boat from China. If you’re heading to Comic Con, you can visit one in person at our distributor’s booth, DKE Toys. They will be here in about two months, so check back in late August so you can stock up on smarts.

The Popular Pineal

Posted: Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

The pineal gland may be small, but it looms large in the minds of literary types. Did you know the pineal gland was a source of fascination to philosophers like Descartes, who called it the “seat of the soul“? The pineal gland captured the imagination of authors like Hunter S. Thompson, whose character Dr. Gonzo feared the psychoactive properties of pineal gland extract in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. “Man, I’ll try just about anything, but I’d never in hell touch a pineal gland,” Dr. Gonzo said in the movie version of the book. In his novel Broom of the System, David Foster Wallace’s fictional corporation Stonecipheco worked on putting a pineal additive in baby food. More pop culture pineal stuff here.

Doctor’s Orders

doctor-gift-medical-giftThey’re stocking candy canes at the grocery store, and our local Bed Bath & Beyond’s got plush singing rabbis (I’m not making this up), so that must mean the holidays are near. Gearing up for the holiday season before Thanksgiving fills me with disgust, but being the gut-monger I am, I suppose I must jump aboard the holiday retail bandwagon and remind you to check out our Gutsy Gift Guide. It’ll tell you what to buy if your best friend is getting a mammogram, or just the thing for your diabetic brother. There’s even a sebaceous gland lapel pin for that diligent cosmotologist who got rid of all those zits for ya. Our handy list will help you find just what the doctor ordered for that marvelous nurse, amazing pediatrician, or that special medical student in your life. So take two lapel pins and call us in the morning.

Get Guts Cheap

Posted: Thursday, March 12th, 2009

plush-lung-72dpiWhen the going gets guts, the guts go shopping. We got a bunch of samples back from the toy testing process that are totally fine — except they are missing their hangtags and labels. We figured we should celebrate their returning somewhat unscathed by offering them up at a discount to you, so we stuck some cheap-o lungs, liver, brains, kidneys and gallbladders in the Steals + Deals section of our website. So if you were planning on ripping the tags off anyway for better gutsy cuddling or you wanted to give a liver to your dog or whatever, now’s your chance to get them on the cheap. Stock is very limited, so go get ‘em if you want ‘em.
