The small intestine absorbs nutrients from food, while the large intestine absorbs water and excretes solid waste. The appendix, seen here at bottom left, doesn't do much of anything. It may have been used to digest cellulose, but we think it's also pretty darn cute, and every intestine needs a friend. Say intestine in Japanese: Gatto!
