Free Plush Hearts!

Posted: Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Don’t forget to enter Chronicle Books’ contest, which ends this Friday — five lucky winners will get a free plush heart, Spill Your Guts journal, I Heart Guts mix and match stationery set, stickers, and “I Work In Detox” liver lapel pin. All ya have to do is tell ‘em your favorite organ and why and you’re entered. Some of our favorite comments so far: “My bladder makes sure I never oversleep, it interrupts long road trips to keep them from getting boring, it gives you an excuse to inspect someone’s bathroom.” AND “As a new dad, I have to go with the uterus! Due to a bit of (mis)fortune the doctor actually held up my wife’s uterus for me to “check out”. Umm, not such a pretty site. Thankfully, I have managed to replace that image in my mind with your adorable plushie.” AND “I love the liver – it allows us to enjoy the finer things in life such as champagne, chocolate and hot chips. Sorry liver.” Winners are picked at random, but we’ll keep our guts crossed for your good fortune!

High Fashion Guts

Posted: Monday, March 8th, 2010

Organic fashion just got a new look courtesy of Rei Kawakubo’s fall 2010 collection for Comme des Garçons. Her dresses were decorated with blobby shapes that resembled kidneys, pancreases, stomachs, hearts and intestines, but worn on the outside. The theme for the collection? Inside decoration. We love it! {photos courtesy Hint Magazine and Style.com}

The wonderful people at Chronicle Books must be crazy — they’re giving away our new Spill Your Guts journals and mix-and-match stationery sets to five lucky winners on their blog. Cute & Edible Brains

Posted: Monday, March 1st, 2010

Hello Kitty is not just cute, but she’s got brains, too. Even better, those brains are edible, made from delicious chocolate and wrapped in pretty pink foil. Yummy. One of the commenters from this post on Hello Kitty Hell argues that that isn’t actually a brain coming from Hello Kitty’s head, but rather a giant Easter egg, but we like brains better, of course. {Thanks, Tristy!}

Reversible Fetus

Posted: Friday, February 26th, 2010

Turn this baby inside out — really clever fetus in a sac, created by The Beat Cowboy a Craftster Forum regular. And while on the topic of reproduction, my pail Julie over at Particle Zoo alerted me to the wonders of iPeriod, an iPhone app that let’s you track your menstrual cycle and will alert you to when you might be feeling crummy and when to expect ol’ Aunt Flo’s arrival. Fully integrated with the iPad and iTampon. {via Boing Boing}

Love this anatomical duvet cover by Taiyo Onorato and Nico Krebs of TONK. I found this post on Neatorama via Lists Galore amazing Gross Anatomy: 50 Body Parts list. Worth checking out. {Neatorama via Lists Galore}

Organs at Fashion Week

Posted: Friday, February 19th, 2010

Held during New York Fashion Week, the Heart Truth catwalk show features celebs and models in red dresses by prominent designers to raise awareness of the prevalence of heart disease in women, a campaign launched by the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute. New York’s fashion week wrapped up yesterday just as London’s fashion week is gearing up, and the show will go on without one of the biggest body-parts boosters in fashion — British designer Alexander McQueen, who apparently committed suicide last week. McQueen’s anatomically-inspired accessories — like his mirrored ribcage suitcase for Samsonite and tendon-and-vein-inspired athletic shoe for Puma, equipped with a silver tooth — were beautiful and twisted all at the same time. Anatomy geeks worldwide will miss this talented designer.

Upside Down Love

Posted: Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

As you may remember, a few years ago we made a parody of the I Heart NY logo replacing the heart with our own, and shortly afterwards were asked to destroy the shirts by the New York City Development Corp. Well, destroy them we did, in our own special way, by embellishing and hand-sewing these special tees. Next up in our series of limited-edition tees, we have a hand-sewn heart made from our now-illegal I Heart Guts shirts. Women’s and men’s sizes while they last, we’re only making a handful of these!

It’s a McCoronary!

See what makes Grimace tick in this awesome anatomical rendering of McDonald’s one and only purple shake-loving monster. Dreamed up by artist Glen Brogan, Shirt Woot elaborates on his many health troubles, probably related to a lifetime of lousy dietary choices: “G weighs over 540 pounds. He is only 25, but suffers from hypertension, Type II Diabetes, elevated cholesterol, gallstones, Gout, sleep apnea, and has recently suffered a mild heart attack.” {via A Hamburger Today. Thanks, Richard!}

Innardly Insoles

Veins and polka dots never looked so good together as they do on these organ-y Keds from Zazzle UK. It’s a funny combo, and you can further trick them out to your liking by customizing the lace, eyelet and trim colors. {via Stylist}
